You arrive at the edge of a large meadow with extremely tall grass. Grass that's tall enough for a lion to hide in. Or lots of lions.
The grass to your immediate left rustles, spooking you. But it's only a breeze causing the grass to rattle against a large metal sign.
The sign reads:
Mequis are feline hybrids, about 3/4 domestic cat and 1/4 "unknown equine". They are creatures who prefer open grasslands and meadows. We are priviledged enough to house eight Mequis here, and they have banded together to form a breeding group known as an "Open Mamba".

The grass moves again with a soft sound, but you ignore it. Then, suddenly, a warm, furry something presses up against you and begins to rumble.

It takes every inch of your self-control not to scream as you glance down at the creature. It is actually smiling at you, and you relax and give its ears a scratch. You are rewarded with a deep, rocky purr.
It walks back into the grass, glancing over its shoulder at you. Its tail twitches, seemingly encouraging you to accompany it.
It leads you over to another one of its kind, which is resting calmly in the shady grasses. Its fur is midnight-black, and it flips its multicolored tail-tip at you in greeting. Your white-striped guide weeows at its fellow, and then pushes onwards through the waist-high grass.

Next, you come across a tiny area where the grass has been tromped down into a sort of flat nest. Two of the felids are present, a blue one which appears to be fast asleep, and a Siamese-marked one which is pawing at the sleeping one's tail.
As you approach with the lead feline-hybrid, the Siamese-marked one pauses its idle game and looks up at you, making a sound that is partway between a soft meow and a whinny.

The white-striped one eyes you up and down, and then leaps away into the grass again.
