Kilara looks up from her desk as you approach. She smiles, setting her paperwork aside. "Hello! Are you here to inquire about Schattarnek breeding?" She stands up behind the desk and walks around it, waving her plumed tail from side to side. "That's wonderful! I love those little Schattarnek dragonets... they're like little fluffy bundles of energy." She looks at you closely. "Now, you know, breeding your Schattarnek with another dragon is a simple process, although many different variables are involved. Here are some guidelines to remember before submitting your request for breeding. Just have a quick look at them, if you wouldn't mind." She hands you a thick sheet of parchment-like paper, upon which are written several paragraphs in Kaere's steady handwriting: 1. Schattarneki dragons DO participate in "flights". This means that you may submit one dragon and request that he or she become the chased "flyer" in a flight. The flight will be open to other people to submit their own dragons, Schattarneki or otherwise, so be SURE you wish to do this. The owner of the flyer chooses the winner of the flight and writes a flight-story. It can be short. If the owner doesn't want to write a flight-story, I'll write one - but I'll also choose the winner. Both male and female Schattarneki may participate in flights. 2. Schattarneki generally mate for life, although casual breeding partners are not uncommon. This means that your Schattarnek can breed with whatever other Schattarnek or other dragon that it pleases (providing they are of opposite genders, of course), but if your Schattarnek has taken a mate, they will usually prefer to breed with the chosen mate. (Your dragon does not HAVE to take a mate.) If your Schattarnek has taken a mate, and you would like to breed outside a mate-bond, please provide me with a reason as to why your Schattarnek would be doing this. 3. Only adult Schattarneki can breed. They can choose mates and life-bond at the hatchling phase, but they will not be able to produce eggs until they mature into adults. Similarly, Elder Schattarneki are past the breeding age and will not produce eggs. 4. Yes, Schattarneki CAN and WILL breed with other dragon species! Hybrids are welcomed. If you would like to see a chart of how traits could be passed down though potential crossbreedings, see the "Appearance" page. 5. Regal Schattarneki will take common Schattarneki and other dragon species as mates, and will produce eggs with them, but this is unusual. Most Regal Schattarneki will not breed very often, if at all. It's just a finicky genetic quirk of theirs. 6. Do not ask to breed your Schattarnek, be it male or female, more than once a month. Schattarnek parents will not lay another clutch of eggs until their previous clutch has at least reached adulthood. 7. A VERY important thing to note is that Schattarneki from the same immediate family will not mate with one another. This means no parent/child, brother/sister, or uncle/niece or aunt/nephew crossings. Cousin/cousin are all right. This may seem like a ridiculous rule, but we keep the Schattarneki as realistic as possible. This provides a more in-depth experience in which guardians may actually plan out bloodlines, family lines, genetics, etc. A final note on this is that half-siblings (meaning that one sibling had one different parent than the other, such as the same mother but different fathers) may mate with each other, but please provide me with a reason why you would like this to occur. 8. As of now, special "gift" or "award" Schattarneki or frost/northern ones ARE able to breed. This may change in the future, so please check for updates! Kilara eyes you as you look up from the paper. "Does everything check out okay with the guidelines above?" She takes the paper back from you and returns it to a towering stack on her desk. "Very good. Just fill out this short form, and my pack-sister Kaere will contact you to finalize the details." After handing you the form, she claps her furry hands together and wags her tail, smiling. "I'm so happy for you! This is very exciting. Oh! I almost forgot. Once the eggs are laid, they will be taken into the adoption nest for new guardians to adopt and raise, but both guardians of the parents have the option of keeping one of the eggs to raise themselves. Hmm... there was something else too... oh, right! One more thing for you to read, sorry." She turns around suddenly and digs through an alarmingly tall pile of paperwork, muttering to herself, "Now where were those rules and regulations?" Just as the stack appears to be tipping over, she yanks out another sheet of paper, steadies the stack, and hands the paper to you. "This is direct from Kaere herself. It's a few notes on how breeding works." She slips back behind her desk and busies herself with sorting out the paperwork as you read. Female Schattarneki generally lay five to ten eggs per clutch. I will determine the number randomly by rolling a 10-sided die. (I am a geeky nerd who RPs a lot. I have over 250 10-sided dice.) Regals usually have fewer eggs, generally one to four per clutch. This also will be determined by a roll of the dice, this time a 4-sided one. - Mutations will occur, but please do not request them specifically unless you have an uber-good reason to do so. - If you breed or fly a female here, her clutch will go to our sands unless you request differently. "Are you done reading?" Kilara smiles at you. "Here's a pen so you can fill out that form I handed to you earlier." She hands you the writing utensil and then returns her attention to her paperwork. As you look at the form, you notice several areas to be filled out and some boxes to be checked. You also see a small note written at the top, right underneath the form's title. It reads, "Please be advised that if you are submitting a non-flight breeding, the owner of the dragon you are breeding yours to will be contacted to see if they authorize this breeding. If you do not know the e-mail address of the other dragon owner, just put in their name and we will attempt contact them."
