Taking a deep breath, you stride through the stone archway that is engraved with the word "Adopt/Sands". You step into a large chamber that is, of course, walled on all sides by the cave stone, with several slit window vents carved straight through the mountain rock for fresh air and light. Alcoves chiseled into the walls hold tiny lanterns paneled in by glass, lighting the room with a soft, flickering glow. Stone biers line the walls, and several high wooden boxes sit atop each bier. The ground itself is silvery sand, incongruous in the mountains. It appears to be several feet deep, and the air just above it shimmers with heat. There are several dents in the sand here and there, as if Schattarneki have curled on the sand -- perhaps around their egg-clutches? You step closer to look into the boxes that sit on the biers, and an authoritative voice cuts across the chamber. "Halt!" You stop dead in your tracks and spin around to see a stocky adult Schattarnek approaching you. The golden clips on his wing-spikes identify him as a dragon of high rank. His fur is dark smoke-gray and beige, and his eyes spark angry green in your direction. "I am Ahsz'Teas, protector of these eggs. You are trespassing on the sands. What business have you here?" Even as you begin to speak to explain your presence, another voice speaks up. "Be calmed, Ahsz'Teas. The eggs are now mature enough to be given out to worthy guardians, and our visitor is here with my blessing." Immediately, the Schattarnek bows his head, the angry scowl fading from his features. "Forgive me, my lady." He steps backwards and sits down on his haunches on the warm sand. You turn towards the source of the second voice and see another creature similar to the one you were greeted by outside of the caves. She is white-furred, marked here and there with patches of tan and blue-gray, and her light blue eyes regard you solemnly. She appears to be wolf-like, unlike the first anthropomorphic canine you met. "Greetings. I am Kaere, chief guardian to the Schattarneki dragons of Splintyr. I trust that you understand what it is you're getting into? Schattarneki are a rare breed. We barely managed to rescue some of them before their homeworld was destroyed." She waves a furred hand, smiling slightly. "But you can learn more about this if you go to the World of Splintyr room. I won't waste your time with it." Kaere leads you over to the wooden boxes, which turn out to be individual nests for dragon eggs. The boxes are lined with soft fur in a multitude of colors, and a small apparatus stretches over each box, appearing to keep the egg inside warm - either through mechanical or magical means, it's hard to tell. "The females come here to lay their eggs on the sands, and they remain to guard them. Most of the time, you'll find the clutches on the sands with their mothers, but the orphaned eggs are placed in these nest-boxes here." "The females and the eggs are all under my protection," Ahsz'Teas comments from behind you. "Well, here they are," Kaere whispers, smiling at the eggs. "Our hope for the future." There are 15 dragon eggs available in this clutch. 5 are Regals. Adoption signups begin date and will end on date. Egg images will be sent out on the closing-date. You will have ONE week from that date to post your egg's image on your website. One week later, the hatchling images will be sent. You will have TWO weeks to post yours, after which the adult images will be sent out. So, basically your dragon will take a total of one month to grow to adulthood and breeding age. *Please keep in mind that Regal Schattarneki dragons are very rare and will only go to Guardians with a decent profile and story. Thanks!* And a free Regal Schattarnek dragon to the first person to guess which computer game the title image of this page tips its hat to! :p Home | Adopt/Sands | Growth | Appearance | Culture | Breeding | Forum | FAQ Residents | Abandoned | Guardians | World of Splintyr | Store | Contact Lakota Splintyr is a member of the Nexus / Kshau Protectorate All characters, images, and text, including Schattarneki and Splintyr are the property of and are copyrighted to Crystal Carlson and DragonByte Studios © 1998-2005.
